"If you spray your lawn this fall to control the broadleaved weeds, here ' are two helpful hints. (1) choose a day when the weather is warm and no storm is predicted; and (2) use one and one-half to two times the normally recommended rate of 2-4-D weed killer since a heavier rate is needed during dur-ing the cool fall weather to get desired results." These two treatments combined now will give you a healthier, more weed-free lawn next spring," stated Louis A. Jensen, Utah State University Extension Exten-sion agronomy weed specialist. He explained that broadleaved broadleav-ed perennial weeds, such as dandelion, dock and plantain, grow rapidly in late summer and early fall. In addition to the leaves one can see, they develop de-velop a large taproot that lives over the winter and sends up new growth next spring.
