Show DISNEY, BELL TEL TEAM UP TO PRODUCE INTERESTING FILM ON OCEANOGRAPHY ' The Restless Sea," the new Bell System Series pro-grim pro-grim on ccsanography produced by Walt Disney Productions, Produc-tions, will be telecast over NBC-TV on Friday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p. m. The hour color broadcast is a wide-ranging report on that vast ard mysterious "inner space" that covers nearly three-quarters of the earth's surface the sea. "The Restless Sea" illustrates in film and animated sequences sequenc-es the fascinating work of cceanographers in searching out the complex and interwoven interwov-en relationships of nature in the sea, integrating the marine applications of many sciences including physics, biology, meteorology, me-teorology, geology, chemistry and engineering. Combining exciting and unusual un-usual filmed action from above and below the surface of the sea, the program shows hurricanes hurri-canes and mountainous waves; marine life from the microscopic micro-scopic plankton to the largest mammals; modern instruments that enable scientists to plunge thru layers of sediment on the ocean bottom and obtain a record rec-ord of earth thru the geologic ages; and the latest oceano-graphic oceano-graphic equipment from underwater under-water television cameras to the FLIP (a research vessel that literally flips on end to record underwater sounds). Animation and diagramatic representations illustrate the movements of tides and currents; the composition compo-sition of sea water; the topography top-ography of the ocean floor with its great seamounts, sunken islands, and submarine canyons and trenches; plus many other aspects of the far-reaching science sci-ence of oceanography. |
