Another great hit was a skit depicting what goes on in Washington Wash-ington at Inauguration time. Two constituents arriv ed expecting their Congresmen to take care of them and find them hotel accomodations and tickets for the ball. He arose to the occasion, giving up his own tickets, and insisting on taking them home with him to be his house guests. This scene produced immediate response from the audience, as it was actually more fact than fancy. In various forms, it had been enacted in more than one Congressman's orri.ee. Bennett The annual celebration of Founders' Day at Washington's Congressional Club is always a "fun" day. After all the snow and cold of the winter here, members were glad to don their new spring bonnets and surround tables colorfully decorated with spring flowers interspersed with gay miniature gingham, straw and lace hats. A beautifully decorated deco-rated birthday cake, topped with lighted sparklers was wheeled in to give an added festive note. The club is a unique institution institu-tion in Washington, having been chartered in 1908 by an Act of Congress. As its name implies, its membership is composed of the wives and daughters of members of Congress. It is one of the few completely bipartisan organizations organiza-tions here. On Founders' Day' protocol and dignity are forgotten and the members are prepared for anything to happen as a, "horns talent show" unfolds. This year, Utah was well represented as Mrs. Frank Moss and Mrs. David King were in one of the skits, and as president, I presided. The theme of the day was "The New Frontier." The hit |
