Show Mountain States Cuts in Dials at Cedar City and St. George History was made last Saturday Sat-urday when the telephone sys-terns sys-terns in Cedar City aid St., George were changed from manual to dial operation. This change marked the completion of a $1,900,000 service improvement im-provement project in Southern Utah by the Mountain States Telephone Company, according accord-ing to C. A. Ycates, district telephone manager at Provo, and culminates their dial conversion con-version program for all communities com-munities south of Nephi. In addition to the two new dial telephone buildings and hundreds of miles of new local and long distance circuits have been installed to assist in the rapid completion of calls to any place in the nation. These new circuits not only will serve St. George and Cedar City, but will improve service in every exchange in the area. Before the changeover could be made it was necessary to test every circuit connected to the new system. Mayor Arnold Ar-nold Anderson of Cedar and Mayor William A. Barfocker of St. George were on hand when it came time to test the long distance circuits. They, were given the honor of talking talk-ing on the first call over the -new system between their respective re-spective cities. |
