Democratic Central Committee , All Utah Will Win with WATKINS On the surface, there is little con- y-- -- ..r-----" ncction between Iron County and the : I'rovo River (Deer Creek) Reclama- I r ; lion Project, which Arthur V. Watkins helped organize in the early 1930's. f ; j But there is a definite connection. f . In the 1930's, when Watkins, then r' a Utah County attorney, was working ' "" "TT to obtain support in Central Utah for f the proposed Deer Creek Reservoir ; - ' . , project, Iron County was shipping only , - i about 135.000 gross tons of ore annu- . " ; , ally. 1- "v-.A Since 1951, Iron County ore pro- , ' . duction has been in excess of 4 million I ... 1 V L..l tons annually. The biggest single factor in this increased Iron County ore production produc-tion has been the development of the steel industry in Utah County, which consumes at least half of that ore production. And one of the major factors in the decision to locate a large, integrated inte-grated steel mill in Utah County was the availability of a large supply sup-ply of clear, mountain water from the Deer Creek Reservoir, which went into operation in 1941. Arthur V. Watkins has exhibited comparable foresight in successfully spearheading authorization of the Colorado River Storage Project, the Small Reclamation Projects program, and other legislative measures to develop the great natural resources of Utah and the West. Virtually all of these development programs are self-liquidating, and the water and money saved, and the taxes produced, will yield this area and the Federal Fed-eral treasury a thousand-fold for every dollar invested. This is REAL Government economy, and the jobs and opportunities created will help reduce the deplorable exodus of tale nted young people from Utah. Vote for Good Government Vote Republican U. S.
