Show WATER .ON BEAVER SNOW COURSES STILL INCREASING Beaver watershed snow surveys sur-veys conducted by the Soil Conservation Service on April 25th, showed above average snow depth and water content on all three snow courses. Snow depths and water content con-tent were well above the amount measured on the watershed wat-ershed April 27, 1957, according accord-ing to Kenneth Williams, Unit Conservationist, S C S, at Beaver. Measurements on the Rig Flat snow course 10,000 foot elevation showed 84 inches of snow and 32.5 inches of water compared to 78 inches of snow and 26.6 inches of water at this time last year. The 9300 foot elevation Otter Ot-ter Lake course measured 63 inches of snow and 23 inches of water compared to 60 inches of snow and 20.7 inches of water last year. The Merchant Valley course elevation 8200 feet was covered cov-ered with 39 inches snow containing con-taining 12.8 inches of water compared to 30 inches of snow and 10.2 inches of water at this time last year. The snow surveyors found the soil underneath the snow was not frozen and was wet from moisture which came last fall. Snow surveys were made by Mr. Williams, assisted by Lee Strong and Hal Lund of Beaver. Bea-ver. Stream Mow forecasts to be expected on Utah's major drainages will be prepared and published by the SCS as soon as snow surveys are completed and the data can be assembled. |
