Show Friday, October 20, 2000 THE SIGNPOST Page 1 1 Candidate continued from page 1 0 Voter apathy is the result of the public's diminished trust in government officials, according to Chambers. He vows that he will "get in there, put the gloves on and bring back the trust." He feels that voters need to study the person instead of rallying with parties. "I stand up straight as an individual," Chambers said. Unlike his opponents who have put thousands of dollars into campaigning, he has spent only $1,200. "Why not put that money to good use instead of spending it on campaign items?" Chambers said. Chambers is self-employed with Rocky Mountain Excavating. Robert Fuller (D) Fairness and consistency in zoning and tax regulations are issues Fuller will appeal if elected,. He is one of five plaintiffs wrio filed a lawsuit against Weber County officials over 160 acres of Ogden Valley Wolf Creek land, which was sold to ex-Denver Bronco's player, Rulon Jones, in 1997. Fuller explained that he intends to "uphold the Utah code, which is the law of the land." He will also develop a long-range plan that prioritizes city spending. "I have a proven track record of my commitment to Weber County," Fuller said. Fuller has worked for Underground Utility Construction as project manager. John Thompson (Unaffiliated) The tax system is an area of concentration for Thompson, if elected. "I think everybody should be paying something as part of the county," Thompson said. "Everybody should pay their fair share." Crime is also an issue that Thompson will address if elected. Instead of spending money on jails, the police force, and the court systems, he feels that the focus should be on what is causing the criminals to commit the crime. The growth in the county and the Olympics are also on Thompson's agenda. Thompson, a retired marine, is working with the Office of Recovery Services for Child Support. The elections are Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Weber County. Titans continued from page 5 lifestyle and even music. By the end of the camp there was a talent show to see if any changes in attitudes had taken place. When seeing the talent show, "I knew then they were well on their way to becoming friends," he said. "This movie," which he said was fantastic, "shows the world how people can overcome diversity if you can just talk to each other ... This movie is like Novocain, every time it works." He said the first time he watched the movie he looked for mistakes, the second time he looked for lies, the third time he had to keep from crying and the fourth time he enjoyed it. Danny Hatch, Convocation chairman, said, "He really is every bit a man as he is in the show. He's real." Boone's wife, Carol, said the speech was fun to listen to. "It was from the heart."
