Not only is it an all-you-can-eat breakfast, but it will be served by vice presidents and deans of the different colleges. According to Knight, this was one of the most successful events last year, with 200 people In attendance. "It was a great way to interact with the students and the family," he said. Hot air balloon rides, kidsland and planetarium show Weather permitting, community members may see a huge balloon on the northwest corner of campus. The hot air balloon rides were scheduled for last year, but windy conditions prohibited the event from happening. "I think that everyone, children included, would love to go in a balloon," Knight said. He also commented that the rides are very safe and the balloon is tethered. People can ride from 1 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Starting at 10 a.m. Wildcat Family Weekend will feature "Kidsland." It includes family pictures with Waldo the Wildcat, a clown, magic show. children's games and face painting. The George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park, the Treehouse Children's Museum and the Ogden Nature Center will sponsor activates In the Shepherd Union Ballroom. .. A planetarium show, "Dancing with the Dinosaurs," will be featured at the Ott Planetarium at 1 1 a.m. Mindy Ferrin, wife of WSU media facilities coordinator Alan Ferrin, brought her boys to Kidsland last year and is planning to keep the tradition. 'The kids just loved having the little carnival games they could try," she said. The people who put them on were nice. Even if the kids didn't win, they had a little prize for them." Ferrin said they will attend as much as they can all day. They are looking forward to the hot air balloon ride. Also Saturday, there will be tables set up with information about WSU and the services offered. Sharon Aiken-Wisniewski, director of academic advisement, will be giving people information about the university. Tailgate party and football game From noon to 1 p.m., anyone can bring a grill and tailgate with family and friends. The Wildcats will kick off at 1 p.m. at Stewart Stadium. Admission for students is free. Coach Jerry Graybeal and the team will take on No. 1 in conference and undefeated Portland State. WSU sophomore Kevin Hurst and friends were able to pick up the impersonation group from the airport and spend the day with them last year. "It was awesome because we got to talk and find out different places they've been and performed at," Hurst said. They were very friendly and outgoing. They'd make us laugh and we'd make them laugh. I'd invite them to my birthday party." Hurst also thought the concert was great. "We were right down in front and when they played familiar songs we could sing and dance and have a good time," he said. The concert is at the Dee Events Center. What's next? Knight hopes that Wildcat Family Weekend will become as strong of a tradition as Homecoming. He hopes it will be something families and students will look forward to every year. "Hopefully every year it gets a little better," he said. Knight also encourages people to come and make a day of it. "I hope people will come away and say it was a great fun-filled weekend."
