Ed department grows By Christine Rasmussen Staff writer of The Signpost The growth of Weber State College has been a major factor in the enlargement of the school of education, according to Dean Richard V. Jones. During the 1987 school term, the master of education degree that was being offered to WSC students through Utah State University separated. This caused the extension program to decease, allowing Weber State to award its own master's degree in education. The new addition to the Swenson Gymnasium, opening fall 1990, will allow the expansion of the health, physical education, recreation and dance department. Technological advances, especially computers, has become accessible for students to learn and gain experience on. This allows them to become more prepared for future developments. The expansion of the college and the school of education has required an increase number of personal to fulfil the needs being created. "During this past decade, the education departments has also benefitted from the addition of new faculty members," said Jones. "We were able to build upon a strong foundation, and refocus our selves to the new generation of students." The increase of instructors has enabled each of the departments to sponsor special events and programs. "The child and family studies department has developed and established the 'Families Alive Conference' which recently held its tenth annual conference at Weber State," said Jones. "Through special funding, we were able to create a special project to train and prepare students to teach on Navaho and Ute Indian Reservations in the state. "The school of education is also working with other schools and departments at Weber State to develop a relationship that will become productive and beneficial to the students," said Jones. This year, the school of education began the Hemingway program with the English department, which is an alternative learning system for teachers. "All we do is in an atmoshere of support for one and another. Both the students and the faculty benefit from everything we do," said Jones. New Polymer Gel System Replaces Popular Acrylic Nail Treatments That Damage Natural Nails IT K- " Weak, brittle, slow-growing nails are being covered up with acrylics, silk wraps, press-ons, glues, powders, polishes and hardeners. But these "cover-ups" are expensive and time consuming, and the fact is that beneath it all, nails remain weak, brittle, and slow-growing. Many of the popular nail "cover-ups" actually damage natural nails further. Now, there is a revolutionary development that works with your natural nail to create healthy-nail glamour. Images' new polymer substance can now be self-applied to strengthen and protect natural nails. (The substance is similar to a polymer now being used in dental offices to seal and protect teeth.) In a matter of minutes, you can apply the smooth and glossy polymer and bond it to the nail using a highly specialized bonding lamp.
