Now there are four large buildings that house up to 600 students. Two of the buildings, Promontory and Wasatch, are room and board accomodations. The other two, Stansbury and LaSal, are apartment facilities. Promontory is the main housing office and contains the cafeteria, as well as ROTC facilities and Continuing Education. Wasatch is presently using the top level for conference housing and bottom two levels as student housing. Both apartment buildings house up to 72 occupants apiece. They are equipped with three double bedrooms per apartment, a kitchen, bath and a half and a full pantry. These buildings were created for the purpose of giving students an overall collegiate learning experience. Over the years, the WSC residence halls have met this goal, making it necessary to establish new goals and update facilities and ideals to encourage a community environment. This year's theme is "Pride, Enthusiasm and Excellence," according to the Residence Hall Association (RHA) government. RHA is in its second year of re-establishment and has strengthened itself in its student developmental process, providing students with activities and a balance of physical, social, emotional, spiritual and educational growth. The RHA has been recognized nationally for several programs of the month throughout the academic year. Student affiliates have been commended for their outstanding efforts on behalf of the organization. Joseph T. Herlihy was named advisor of the year, and RHA won best school display, both regionally and nationally. RHA has been involved with all other campus organizations in co-sponsoring and supporting a variety of activities and events. It has fielded competitors in the WSC Intramurals program, taking a number of awards and titles. RHA has also tried to develop a cooperation between the Ogden community and the students living on campus, hoping to give both elements a feeling of service and support. All of the refurbishing process has been completed, allowing students to live in a more productive living environment. All rooms and common areas are carpeted. The dining room and lounges have been professionally decorated to encourage a comfortable atmosphere for academic progress and community living standards. Students appear to have adapted well to their living environment. Comments suggest that the most positive aspects of residence hall living are convenience to basic needs, social interaction, cutlturization, programming that provides a wide range of social functions and educational experiences, as well as leadership advantages and a limitless amount of resources. The RHA tries to provide a well-balanced and organized institution with rewarding and realistic student development techniques. RHA is continuing to smooth out the wrinkles and fine tune its offering to continue to provide a TOTAL college experience for those who have elected to be a part of this aspect of campus life. |
