Discussions on rights to be held on May 17 The rights of public interest versus those of the private individual, will be the topic of a lecture May 17 at Weber State College. The noon lecture will be presented by Dr. Richard M. Alston, WSC professor of economics, in room 417 of the Shepherd Union Building. The presentation is one of the spring quarter symposia sponsored by the WSC Research and Professional Growth Committee. According to Alston, there are constant skirmishes between private interest groups and public agencies that effect decisions, especially those concerning natural resource allocation, to either the left or the right. Those skirmishes, he commented, ultimately raise the question of public-versus-private interests. He said, "There is a religious war between right wing privatizers and left wing socializers." Alston has researched natural resource allocation for the last ten years from an economic viewpoint. The lecture is free and the public is invited. j '.ls-- . |
