Show Signpost Tuesday, September 27, 1983 CENTER STAQE New Season for Symphony Soloists in constant demand around the world will highlight the 1983-84 Utah Symphony concert season called the "Silverstein Season" in honor of the orchestra's new artistic director Joseph Silverstein. Former music director Varujan Kojian will return to direct an all-Beethoven progran. Other performances include pianists Alexis Weissenberg and Andre Watts, cellist Lynn Harrell and trumpet virtuso Maurice Andre.An all-orchestrial program began the season last Thursday in the WSC Browning Center. Enesco's Unison From Suite No. 2, Samuel Barber's First Symphony, and Sibelius' second symphony will be guest conducted by Murry Sidlin on Oct. 13. Murry has done a lot of work with the National Symphony Orchestra on a series of television programs for children. On Nov. 17 Silverstein will direct the orchestra and soloist Andre Watts in trumpet concertos by Hummel and Albinioni. Schubert's Second Symphony and Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" of 1919 will be performed.German composr Paul Hindermith's Concert Music for Strings and Brass will be on the program Jan. 19. Also former winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Violinist Elmar Oliveira, will perform Sibelus' Viloin Concerto. He has appeared with virtually every major orchestra in the world. Silverstein will direct Rossini's Overture to "Italian in Algiers" and Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony on Feb. 2. This program includes cellist Lynn Harrell who will play Ernest Block's Schelomo and Tchaikovsky's Pezzo Carpiccioso. Director of the Bourmemouth Symphony in England, Uri Segal, will be in town March 22 to direct Alexis Weissenberg in a performance of Choppin's First Piano concerto and the orchestra in Prokofiev's triumphant Fifth Symphony. Kojian will return to direct pianists Andre Watts in Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto "The Emperor and the orchestra in the composer's Leonare Overture No. 3 and the Seventh Symphony.
