Show October 9, page 11 Price: the look of winning ways By Tony Ritchie Sports Editor When Moses came down from the mountain, he realized he had a very difficult task ahead of him. When Mike Price was appointed head coach of Weber, his situation was similar. Moses was in a very difficult situation. If he didn't deliver the people, he'd have a very Runners pi meet Satu Going into Saturday's three-way Boise State Invitational cross country meet, Weber State coach Chick Hislop was hoping to finish a little closer to the host Broncos than a week ago at the Weber Invitational. Although the Wildcats were four points closer, they finished third behind Boise and co-winner College of Southern Idaho. The Broncos and Golden Eagles finished with 34 points each, while the 'Cats ran for 56 points. A week ago Weber lost 24-50. The Wildcats may have come closer but Rex Hohnholt, who set a course record last week at Weber, ran with a pulled muscle in the front of his right leg and finished fifth. The three-year letterman from Guernsey, Wyo., hurt the leg powerful boss to answer to. Price also has to deliver his people in the next few years or he too will have a very powerful boss to answer to. At this point in the season, it appears that Price's deliverance is a reality. The Wildcats have already beaten such Big Sky powers such as the University of Idaho and Montana State and made mincemeat out of Portland State (who romped ace in rday last Tuesday while lifting weights. Boise State's Tom Rothenberger, who finished second to Hohnholt at the Weber race, took medalist honors. He ran the 10,000-meter distance at Ann Morrison Park in 31:09. He was followed by Chris Davis, 31:24, and Les Woods, 31:25, of Southern Idaho. Team Results were: 1. Boise State 34; 1. Southern Idaho 34; 3. Weber State 50. This Saturday, October 10, the Wildcats travel to Salt Lake City for the University of Utah Invitational. Weber State's success at the meet will depend largely on Rex Hohnholt's leg injury. Coach Hislop believes Hohnholt's sore leg should be at full strength by Saturday, but BYU will be tough to beat and should win. Price has done a great job with Weber, and although the long road ahead of Price and Co. may get rocky, we as fans should get behind them. Not just out of school spirit, but because we owe it to them. It is very interesting to look at Price in contrast with his predecessors. Last year, Coach Pete Reihlman believed in a very limited coaching staff and more elaborate plays. Price on the other hand has one of the largest coaching staffs in the school's history. Head trainer Tom Abdenour said, "Coach Price believes there should be a coach for almost every position." Price is also a firm believer in the KISS system (Keep It Simple, Stupid) The enthusiasm the coaches and team have experienced this year has to be one of their biggest accomplishments. During the Utah State game I witnessed something that was truly impressive. Coach Price stood on the sidelines and clapped and cheered for his team, even though they we're 14 points down. We as fans can learn from Price's enthusiasm. Faith and support for our team is all important and should remain strong, win or lose. uj LI HU Lb LrO Lb iyj "A gorgeous film of glowing scenes.
