Show Moff ett sabbatical includes People's Republic of China Dr. Oren Moffett, Weber State College professor of foreign languages, has visited every region except the Orient, but starting October 15, he will take care of that. Beginning in mid-October, Moffett will leave on a two-month sabbatical to the People's Republic of China. During his leave he will visit a number of China's colleges, universities and language schools in order to study their methods of foreign language instruction. Moffett said, "It's a real adventure. The thing I anticipate most is to greet and Buddhists celebrate in Ogden On October 24th, the community will be offered a unique opportunity to see a remarkable ceremony of Asian culture and tradition--the "Loy-Kathong," or "Festival of the Floating Flowers." This historic event will be held for the very first time in Utah at the M. S. Browning Theater, Union Station, 25th Street and Wall Avenue, Ogden, from 6 p.m. until 12 midnight. The "Loy-Kathong" ceremony is celebrated annually in Thailand to pay tribute to the Buddha. During the ceremony, "Kathongs" or small rafts decorated with beautiful flowers, candles and incense, are released by the celebrants along the edges of rivers or canals and are allowed to gently drift by the hundreds of people under the evening sky. For the rest of the story behind this auspicious event, come join the fun on October 24th. Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $5 for adults and $2 for children, which will include a dinner meal of authentic Thai food, performances of Thai classical dance and others, all part of the cultural show, and the remarkable "Loy-Kathong" ceremony itself. (Sounds familiar, right?) However, this comedy contains unusual depth. The characters are well developed and genuinely funny. Moore's performance as Arthur is nothing less than hysterical, and Liza Minelli is convincing as the proletarian girl. This is good comedy writing and recommended movie entertainment. "Arthur" is currently playing at the Mann Theatre on Harrison Boulevard. REGULAR $2.S9 VALUE! |
