Show DIIETDQrBQ&lG!rCLnrD3jDQ Annual Awards and Honors Program WSC Activities On May 22 the Annual Awards and Honors Program will be held in the Fine Arts Center at 8 p.m. Sunshade 'n Rain will perform in a concert in conjunction with the program. On June 5 at 8:30 a.m. Weber State will hold its 88th annual Commencement exercises. They will be held in the Wildcat Stadium. Art Exhibits of scultpure, ceramics, graphics and other works will be seen in the annual Weber State College Art Student's show May 17 through June 3. From May 15 through May 29 three art majors Gilbert Rodriquez, Diane Sheldon, and Jerry Pacheco will have original paintings, photos, prints and sculpture on exhibit in the Union Building. "Indian Basket Designs of the Greater Southwest" is on display at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. This display will continue through May 30. Concerts Sunshade 'n Rain will be in concert Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. They will perform for the annual Awards and Honors Program. Tickets are available at the U.B. main desk or from LDSSA members Neil Sedaka will be in concert at the Salt Palace in SLC on May 21 at 8 p.m. The tickets are available at all ZCMI stores for $4.50, $5.50 and $6.50. The Weber River Wranglers will be in concert at the Hansen Planetarium on May 28 and 29 at 9:30 p.m. It will be held under the stars. Tickets are $2.50 and are available in advance at the Planetarium. The music is bluegrass style. A joint concert will be presented by the Symphony Orchestra and Chorale of WSC in the FAC Auditorium tonight at 8 p.m. It is a free program and open to all. The Utah Symphony and Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir will join for an historical concert for their contribution to the bicentennial celebration in Ogden at WSC on June 5 at 8 p.m. in the FAC Aucitorium. Theatre The Union Theatre for May 21 and 22 will be Up-Town Saturday. It will be shown at 7 and 9:30 p.m. in the Union Building Theatre. The cost is $1 for students with I.D. and $1.50 without. Rock Hudson, Claire Trevor and Leif Erickson will be on stage in person for one performance only at the Salt Palace on May 24 at 8 p.m. They will perform John Brown's Body, which was written by Vincent Be'.ieand captured a Pulitzer Prize. It is a panorama of events and emotions of the Civil War. The cost is $5, $6, and $7. Tickets are available at all Z. C.M.I, stores and at the box office. Blood Wedding is being performed at the Pioneer Memorial Theatre on May 20, 21 and 22. It is Frederico Garcia Lorca's legend play about the revenge tradition. She Stoops to Conquer, the comedy by Oliver Goldsmith, will be performed May 25-29 at the Pioneer Memorial Theatre. Outing Center Wednesday, May 19 at 1 p.m. the Outing Center will present a seminar on "Backpacking Basics." Rich Rozic from Wolfe's will discuss specialized equipment used by backpackers, proper use of backpacking equipment, and the fundamentals of pack loading. On Saturday, May 22 at 9 a.m. the Outing Center will conduct a day hike in the North Fork Park area. Sign-up deadline is Friday, May 21. fjj flifflili!8itiHHIi If The Associated Students of Weber State College will present the 12th Annual Awards and Honors Program, Saturday, May 22, at 8 p.m. The popular singing group, "Sunshade 'n Rain," will be presented in concert with the winners of nine categories being announced at intermission. Prior to the concert a special banquet will be held in the Union Skyroom to honor the finalists in Beginners by Bruce Tracy Many of the stories in this Spring quarter's Signpost have come from fledging reporters assigned to a "beat" on campus while attending the first class in journalism "Basic Reporting 113." This class and all other journalism classes are taught by Ann Garrett of the Communications Department. Each student was assigned a particular area or "beat" on campus at the beginning of the quarter with continuing instruction on how to find and write news. Reporters to be came from many walks of life including radio personalities, people off the street and even former newspaper writers. Most of the stories were good, according to Jeff Warburton, managing editor of the Signpost. each of the nine areas. The areas in which awards will be presented are: Talent of the Year, Scholar of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Professor of the Year, Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Organization of the Year and Achievement of the Year. Tickets for the concert are available from members of the LDSSA or at the Union Main Desk.
