For more information contact one of the Intramural Officers or Miss Otte in the gym. watermelon fete friday Weber State College's Men's Intramural Association is sponsoring the first annual Freshman Watermelon Bust this Friday noon on the play field below the gymnasium. All WSC students, faculty and staff are invited to the event with a special invitation extended to Freshmen. The Watermelon is provided by the Association and there will be no charge for the activity. The purpose of the activity, according to RonHalleran, Men's Intramural Director, is to "introduce the intramural program to the Freshmen, and introduce the Freshmen to other students." "The Association is making a special effort this year to do our part in making Freshmen feel welcome and wanted at Weber State College. We are instituting a special project for this purpose, and hope to do our part in lowering the annual Freshman "drop." Representatives from Men's Intramurals, Women's Intramurals, the Gymnasium Recreation Program, and WSC Sororities and Fraternities will be at the Watermelon Bust to meet students and introduce theirprograms. r 4--i i p 4 k 1 -to JAN KEIM, Eileen Barber, Sandy Railing, Ginny Parrish, Nancy Flory, and Cathie Gomm await women's fall intramurals. new basketball players at weber Two outstanding Northern California high school basketball players have been signed by the Weber State Athletic Department.High school All-American Jim Watts from Redwood City, Calif., and 6-4 guard Don Collins from Fairfield, Calif., will join the Wildcats this winter. Watts, 6-7 and 195 pounds, is a highly regarded prospect who was named athlete-of-the-year in California's Sequoia District last year. Watts is considered one of the most versatile athletes in Menlo-Atherton High School history. Watts won the top athlete award over seven other district winners in the entire Peninsula of Northern California. As a senior, Watts was named all-Northern California in football and basketball and was the Central-Coast Section deca-thalon champion. Collins, 6-4 guard, was selected as the most valuable player in the Delta League and made the All-Northern California high school team. Described by metropolitan newspaper the Sacramento Bee as "a big cat with fluid moves," Collins led his team to the number one ranking in Superior California.These two talented athletes will be joining the Wildcat's already top-ranking cagers for a season that should be a good one. The Wildcats have won the Big Sky Conference championship five years straight and have played in the last five NCAA playoffs. Five sports activities are being slated for fall quarter by the WSC Men's Intramural Association.The two opening activities will be a tennis singles tournament played during noon hour and a wrestling tournament in the evening. Flag football opens the second round of activity with games scheduled at noon hour to avoid class conflict. Handball doubles will be the final tournament of the quarter and will be played a 2 and 3 p.m. daily.
