Albert Schoepper, is celebrating their 174th year, thus making it the oldest active military musical organization in our country. "The President's Own" is the only musical group that plays regularly at White House social functions. . .whether for luncheons, teas, receptions or state dinners. Certainly no other musical organization manifests the soul of our nation, its history, its religion, its character, its hopes and its aspirations as does the United States Marine Band. This fine ensemble is called upon to perform from its vast repetoire and music library, practically every form of musical expression. The Band, in over 170 years of official performance, has been fortunate in having the leadership of some of America's finest musicians. Its nationwide tours began in 1891, under the leadership of John Phillip Sousa, the "March King," whose stirring - composition "Semper Fidelis" became the official march of the Marine Corps. An afternoon matinee, of approximately one hour, and an evening concert, of approximately two hours, are provided by the 45-member Band. i v - - r sir -m X". 7 g I k J - X fA 1 . 1 " f X A - I , wrsi , I J J L . j 'X" I tx -lh - -" ' fi, I i,l X X k J tVL ?.
