For the majority of the students, faculty and staff it is welcome back, but for many more, this is their first look at Weber State College and for some their first experience with college. In this, the first issue of the Signpost for the fall quarter, we have tried to present some information on services, organizations and facilities available at Weber State. We would also like to try and explain the Signpost and our editorial policy. The Signpost is a student newspaper, published twice weekly, on Tuesday and Friday, by the Associated Students of Weber State College, which in short means you. It is funded by student government with monies paid by students for tuition. It is governed by a publications board and has a faculty advisor (One of the newcomers to the campus). Material appearing in the Signpost is written and edited by students, most of whom are journalism students. However, all students are welcome to work for the Signpost. Even if you have had no experience, the staff is willing to help you find a place on the Signpost. Articles appearing in the Signpost are as diversified, accurate and fair as we can make them. We do not print a paper dedicated to tearing away at the establishment but if there is a legitimate problem, we will not run from it. Rather, we will invite' those with differing viewpoints to present their arguments in these columns. All material submitted to the Signpost becomes the property of the Signpost and we reserve the right to rewrite, edit and display such material as we see fit. We also reserve the right not to publish material submitted to us, however, we try to publish everything we feel to be of interest or beneficial to the studentbody. ' We not only invite, but encourage everyone on the Weber State campus to help us make this a better newspaper. Let us know, if something is happening either on campus or involving people from the campus. If you have an idea for a story you think might interest the students, tell us, you don't have to write the story, we'll do that. All you have to do is let us know it's happening so we can tell the rest of the students at Weber State. Of course, the best help you as a student can be in helping make your newspaper better for you and the rest of us, is to talk with the members of the Signpost. Tell us what you like about the paper and most importantly, what you do not like. Let us know what you would like to see in your newspaper. Once again, welcome to Weber State and we here at the Signpost hope to serve you in a competent manner. We also hope that some of you will decide to come work with us, there's -no faster way to learn what's going on and what's available oncampus. |
