(Photo by John Shupe) Wildcats Break Jinx, Tromp Boise 44 - 3; Seek Number Four At Portland St. Tomorrow The Wildcats of Weber State College invade Civic Stadium in Portland, Oregon, tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. (PDT) to do battle with the Vikings of Portland State College. The nationally ranked Weber eleven is favored to win their fourth game of the season against no defeats. On the other hand, the Vikings are the underdogs and are looking for their first victory after four consecutive defeats. The Vikings were 4-6 on the 1967 season. This year they have a new pilot Coach Don Read. His is a wide open passing exponent. A book by Read will be published this year by Parker Publishing Co., New York, entitled "The Complete Passing Game." Big Sky Victim Portland State lost to three Big Sky teams earlier this season when Idaho State clobbered them 52-30, Montana State slipped past them 17-6, the Montana bombs fell to destroy them 58-0, and non-conference Fresno State battered the Vikings 34-12. The series with the PSC teams is 3-1 in favor of the Wildcats. The only PSC win was the initial meeting when they topped Weber 18-10. Since then, however, the potent Cat offense has unleashed a whopping 165 points in three games, while the highly rated Weber defense has relinquished only 33. Previous scores were 74-6, 51-6, 40-21. Jinx Broken The game will be broadcast over radio KLO alt 9:00 p.m. (MST) by Weber's sports information director, Don Spain-hower.There were several college and individual records established in Weber's 44-3 scalping of the Boise Broncos. The win was the first for a WSC football team over Boise. The jinx was finally broken, and the "coveted" Wooden Indian rests along side the Bell trophy at the main desk in the Union Building. MacGuillivray Top Receiver The win was the seventh straight for the Cats including the last four of the 1967 season. The 81 yard touchdown pass play from Paul Waite to Randy Montgomery against North-eri Arizona was a record, but that was short lived, when Waite hit speedy Dave "Squeak" MacGillivray on a lo-o-o-ng 96 yard bomb. MacGillivray is on of the leading receivers in the conference with 17 receptions for 425 yards. His total of 274 yards against Boise is an individual and school record. His 1967 statistics, except for the number of receptions, have all been surpassed with two-thirds of the season yet to go. For his performance, Mac is our player of the week. Shafer was the first Weber linkster to fire a sub par round of golf. He shot rounds of 73, 76 to go with his hot round of 69. Jim Linke played consistent, too, coming in one shot behind Shafer with a 219 total. As a team effort, Weber shot 885. As expected, Brigham Young University took tournament honors with a team total of 824. BYU's "Fearsome Foursome" was inspired by the likes of John Miller, who scorched the Logan Country Club course with a record equalling round of 62. He also had rounds of 64 and 69 to take low man honors. Utah State finished second with a team score of 842. The University of Utah came in with an 863 to finish third. Wy oming, faltering in the face of tough competition, found the bottom with a 903 total. ' Coach Mac Madsen is in the process of welding Weber's young talent into potential championship material. 'Mad-sen's Striplings" are now participating in one of colleges most prestigious golfing events, the Tucker Invitational, which is being held in the hills of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Webers hopes rest on the shouders of senior, Jim Linke, junior, Terry Monson; and sophomore, Norman Eddy. Freshman hopefuls are Chris Harwood, Richard McAffee, and former Granite High Farmer, Mike Shafer. This will be a grooming experience for Mad-sen's Striplings as they meet poise and confidence face to face. 1 JsL nh,o KoM I DRY CLEAN DRIVE UP SERVICE Washington Blvd. at 29th Street, Dial 394-2545 Roy Shopping Center, Dial 825-5445 SERVICES AVAILABLE . . .
