Those present in addition to Pres.dent M a 'une were Director David Eceles and Thomas D. Dee of Ogden and Chief Engiueer Joseph A. West, also oi Ogden. " . Bids had been submitted by Holt. Reese, Kimball & Lewis' of Salt Lake, Kcviance & Thomi son 01 SpringviUe, C. Erickson & Co. of California, T. W. Stewart aud the Corey Brothers company com-pany of Ogden and W. D. Hendricks & Son" of Richmond. It was found that tae lowest estimate bad been made by Erickson & Co., their bid being 8i" per nnle under that of Hendricks & Son, who were next lowest. The Caliiiraia people, however had not complied with the 'specifications, inasmuch as they failed to include, as required, the pay of a fireman, engineer and conductor for the construction train. The contract was accordingly awarded to the Richmond firm. The Colorado. Fuel and Tron company was awarded the contract, over two competitors, for furnishing all necessary neces-sary bolts spikes and fastenings. The other bidders were the Coffman Railway Rail-way Supply company of Ogden and the Laramie Steel and Iron company of Laramie, Wyo, President MeOune said after the letting let-ting was over that the work of construction con-struction would be begun within fifteen fif-teen days and completed by the expiration expira-tion of three months. Under the terms of the award, Hendricks & Son must do at least half a mile per day, and when the material in sufficient quantities quanti-ties is on hand, not less than a mile a day." "" ' Mr. MeOune does not apprehend any further trouble cr delay in the completion com-pletion of the road, which, as has been stated, will run from Milford to State-line State-line as a starter. The work will be done under the supervision of Chief Engineer Engi-neer West. All rails and other mate-vials mate-vials are to be furnished by the com-paay com-paay to the contractors. W. D. Hendricks, after being notified yesterday afternoon of the success of his bid, said he thought he could carry out his contract in a reasonably short time. He was not prepared to state just how long a time would be required, for mujh might depend on the weather. There are several sidings to be put in which will bring the total length of the road as at present con;ainplated to about seventy-nine miles. An extension of the road beyond StateUne is as yet a matter of conjecture, conjec-ture, but it is stated on good authority that plans for pushing the line at least as far as Pio:he, are rapidly passing the formative period. The pluck and energy and means of President McCune, with the earnest support that will be given the enterprise by those associated asso-ciated with him. insure, the successful aonpletion of the project. |
