Show GOMEZ HAS RESIGNED. Cuban Commander Is Opposed to TVhat Me Termi American loin insttion. Santiago de Cuba, Sept. 14. An un" contradicted rumor has been received by General Lawton that General Maximo Max-imo Gomez, the insurgent commander-in-chief, has tendered his resignation of the command of the Cuban army to the Cuban government at Camaguey, and that it has been accepted. Gomez, it appears, has been protesting against the Cuban government's yielding the control of the affairs of the island to the Americans, and the explanation for resigning was his disapproval of "passive submission to conditions tending tend-ing to the practical retirement of the Cuban republic, as such, and the establishing estab-lishing of the absolute dominion of the United States." |
