Show Fish and Game Commissioners Okeh Purchase of Reservoir Vater Rights Commission Froposes To Buy 200-Acre Feet Of 'Dead' Water Storage That the purchase of 200-acre feet of dead storage water in the big Enterprise reservoir for the protection pro-tection of the fish in that water, will likely become a reality, was reported by Commissioner Newell R. Frei following consideration of this project at the last meeting of the commissioners held in Salt Lake City on last Saturday. This project has been under discussion for sometime, but it was not until Saturday that the commission went on record in favor of the project. For sometime fish and game officials offi-cials of the Washington county association and the people of Enterprise En-terprise have urged the purchase of this water in order to protect the fish in the reservoir from being be-ing left to die, when water shortage short-age forced the water users to draw all of the water for their crops. Under the proposed plan, the water users will receive approximately ap-proximately $12,000 for the purchase pur-chase of 200-acre feet of water. It is then the plan of the water users to raise the level of the dam so that more water can be stored. Those pushing this project have pointed out that this is the best fishing water in this section and that people go there to fish from all sections of southern Utah and parts of Nevada. Attention has also been directed to the fact that this section turns in a large sum of money each year through license fees and it has been the contention of sportsmen that a greater portion of this money should be returned through fish and game projects. While the deal has not been consummated, every indication is that it will be pushed through at the next meeting of the commissioners commis-sioners on Feb. 21st, reports Mr. Frei. |
