Show Ward Conference Meets At LaVerkin On Sunday, November 22 By PANSY L. HARDY LaVERKIN, Utah, Nov. 25, Ward Conference was held here Sunday, Nov. 22nd. The song, "The Spirit of God", was followed by prayer by Brigham Hardy. "Gentley Raise the Sacred Strain", was the second song. Ivan J. Barratt of the stake presidency was in attendance, and in his speaking brought out the fact that Sunday was the birthday birth-day of Pres. Heber J. Grant. He then proceded with the business of the meeting, which was primarily prim-arily the release of the present bishopric and the sustaining of the new. The outgoing bishopric were: Vernon Church, bishop; LaFell Iverson, first counselor; Wickley Gubler, second counselor; and Ervil Sanders, ward clerk. The new bishopric to be appointed are: Loren D. Squire, bishop; with Winferd Gubler, first and Leonard Hardy, second counselors; with Ervil Sanders, ward clerk. Bishop Vernon Church, said among other things in his address ad-dress to the people of his ward, whom he has served and fathered for the past eleven years, "If we live the truth, there will be no apology to make later in life. The truth will make us .free". He also paid tribute to the ward and his immediate family for their cooperation during the time he has served as bishop of the LaVerkin La-Verkin ward, and expressed his sincere appreciation for the privilege privi-lege which had been his. Bishop Iverson said it was the second time he had been released from the bishopric, as he had served under Bishop Ovando Gubler, Gub-ler, prior to his appointment with Church, serving nearly fifteen years in all. He re-asserted his love for the members of the ward, and hoped he would be able to continue to serve them as a member mem-ber of the stake presidency. Bishop Wickley Gubler spoke of his testimony of the gospel and his love for it and for the members mem-bers of his ward. He said he was1 happy for many things, among f others the arrival of a daughter in his home, a few hours previous, to his release from the bishopric. He said, too, that the happiestp life, is the life of service. , The congregation then sang,. "Put Your Shoulder To the Wheel". Mr. Barratt then intro- duced our new bishop, Loren D.c Squire, who spoke. He statedn that he had served nearly ten; years as a counselor to Bishop Wilson and Bishop Gubler, and,( he sincerely hoped that he wouldc have success in his new calling, j The new counselors, Winferd Gubler and Leonard Hardy, then,, spoke in turn, and expressed theii0 appreciation for the opportunity, which had come to them, and, sincerely expressed their wish fou success in their new appointment The song, "God Be With YouV was followed by the closing prayer, pray-er, by Bishop Morris Wilson. |
