Show Too Much K'ews The attention of our readers read-ers and correspondents is directed to the fact that the only news that is taken Thursday morning is news that has taken place Wednesday night. Such news will be accepted ac-cepted up to 10 a. m., Thursday morning. Correspondents are urged urg-ed to get their news in the mail not later than Tuesday. Last week three letters arrived Thursday and could not be used. This news is also too old to be used the following week. Each week more news items come into the News office than can be used. This condition is becoming becom-ing more acute as it becomes be-comes more necessary to run more information regarding re-garding various rationing programs, Bond drives, Red Cross drives, scrap drives, etc. For this reason you are (Continued on page 5) Readers Attention (Continued from first page) asked to keep your items as short as possible and get them in early so that it will be possible for the News staff to plan the paper. Several have asked News staff members why more pages or supplement sup-plement sheets are not run in order to take care of the extra news. The simple answer to this is that five pages of local n e w s and three feature pages are all that the advertising reveune will pay for. Each time that a supplement supple-ment appears in the News under present conditions you can figure that the News had an "extra cost" that the advertising didn't justify. |
