Show Large Attendance I Reported At Stake Dinner Funds Derived From Fete Used To Purchase Microfilm Equipment Attendance at the St. George stake birthday dinner far exceed- 6 ed the anticipation of the com mittee in charge, according to statements made during the program pro-gram by Pres. H. S. Snow and other speakers. Planned by the stake genealogical genealogi-cal committee, under the direction of Walter A. Pace, with Melvin e Hamilton, chairman in charge of e the program, and assisted by a y. large committee, the purpose of id the dinner was to raise St. George ID stake's allotment of the fund for purchasing microfilm equipment by the L.D.S. church for the preservation of the genealogical records. Large bowls of pear blossoms f centered the several tables at which were seated the 518 who were present. Bob, Ken and Glenn ;ar Kenworthy and Joe Talley played in- Hawaiian music while the crowd it assembled. Prayer by William nd Lund of Enterprise ward preceded ich the address of welcome by Pres. er H S. Snow. Eight nurses, including Mary Jarvis, Gertrude Frehner, Marie tl Carter, Irene Carter, Viola Wood- V bury, Maurine Gardner, Marian J Woodard and Meta Spence, enter ed, one at a time and presented g' President Snow with the "Chil dren of Responsibility", which he succeeded in placing, one in charge of each priesthood department, each auxiliary organization, the high council and the scouts. The children's primary department re- ceived the twins. Speeches by Apostle George A. Smith and Harold B. Lee, chairmen chair-men of the L.D.S. church security program, were followed by the presentation of a number entitled "The Pedigree Chart" by Miss Re-nee Re-nee Lund with pledges by junior members from each ward of the stake. A vocal trio "Let Us Labor In The Temple" featured Mrs. Walter Brooks, Mrs. Athe Meeks and Miss Blanche Baker. "Taps" with trumpet solo by Darrel Smith, and chorus by a junior group directed by Mrs. Bernell McAllister, concluded the program. |
