Show Hurricane Enters Five Teams In State Debating Tournament HURRICANE, Utah Five teams were entered by Hurricane high school in the state debate tournament tourna-ment at Salt Lake City on March 29-30. The school was represented by Clark Ballard, Grant Cornelius, Hugh Neilson, Ralph Henderson; Leon Hall, Dwaine Atkin. Those on the girls teams were Barbara Tweedie, Merline Stevens; Opal Isom, Dorothy Hirschi. A. K. Larson acted as coach. Each of these teams debated four times on Friday. Those teams winning three of their four debates de-bates were eligible for the finals on Saturday. Three Hurricane teams took one defeat each to remain in the finals of Saturday. These were Clark, Grant; Opal, Dorothy; Merline and Barbara. Clark and Grant remained re-mained in the tournament and debated five times, winning four. They tied for third place with West High of Salt Lake, Granite high taking second and Ogden placing first. No team was undefeated. un-defeated. Hurricane was the only team to win over Ogden. All debates were held at the University Univer-sity of Utah under the direction of Doctor Bain. They returned Sunday, stopping enroute at the Springville art exhibit. Mrs. Larson. Lar-son. Miss Eleanor Nicholes and i Nelson Snow accompanied them. Two teams. Grant and Clark. Merline and Barbara will be entered by Coach Larson in the B.Y.U. Invitationals to be held April 5 and 6. |
