Show - - Hew County-City Building Proposed The possibility of the County and City securing funds for a new $150,000 building at a small cost to county and city taxpayers was revealed at a discussion of such a project at the recent meeting of the Washington County commissioners. The project was broached to the commissioners by Mayor D. C. Watson and City Attorney LeRoy H. Cox who met with them in behalf of the City of St. George. Mayor Watson told the igroup that he had made contacts with W.P.A. officials and found that it would be possible to get a project of this kind. Another check with the officials by Mayor Watson since the meeting, confirms the information that he presented. Here is what is proposed : That it would be possible to build a County-City building at a cost of approximately $150,000 under a W.P.A. grant. That such a gTant, based on a 75 per cent grant, would leave around $86,500 to be divided between the County and City on a 65-35 basis, making a small cost to both groups in comparison with the building build-ing that could be secured. That since it would be possible to use property now owned by either the County or City, that this cost could be deducted from the $36,500 it is pointed out that the cost would be reduced even more. At the present the project is only under discussion, I and nothing can be done without a vote of the people. For this reason County and City officials are anxious that the people of this section consider the possibilities of such a building; taking into consideration the need and small cost to local taxpayers, etc. People are asked to discuss it in the various communities of the county and if these communities are favorable or against it, to pass this information on to County and City officials so that they may do what the people want in this matter. |
