Show ST. GEORGE CAMP The Glee club' of company 2558 was taken on a trip to Charleston Mountain and the Boulder City CCC camps over the past week-end. The singing CCC boys under the direction of W. T. Morris, Jr., were taken on the trip into Nevada to furnish the musical part of Chaplain D. J. Henry's religious programs in the Nevada camps. The hoys, with Chaplain Henry left DG-45 Saturday Sat-urday morning at 10:00 a. m. going to Las Vegas, then direct to the CCC camp in the cool Charleston PaTk Mountain. The club was the 'guests of company 2537 at a good supper, after which the boys "sang for their supper" in the recreation hall to a large group of fellow men. Later in the evening the boys boarded their truck and made their way to the Boulder City camps where they spent the night. Sunday morning the Glee club entertained enter-tained the fellows of companys ,573 and 2536 on the front porch 'of the latters barrack. Immediately Immedi-ately after the program the boys went down to the Boulder Dam. Previous arrangements had been imade to take the members of the club down into the Boulder Dam. qecurine a government pass and ' with the aid of a Dam worker, (a .man who works in the Dam ) the boys were taken into parts where no other CCC boy had never been taken. After climbing climb-ing and deceding endless iron stairs ad following the course of the Colorado river thru gigantic pipes with a diameter of 30 feet until the rushing water made its wav to massive turbines that : weigh 650 tons, the boys were : ready to come up for air. Having had "an experience of a life time the singing CCC boys were ready to make tracks for home. Every man in the group feels a keen sense of appreclalon to their companv commander. Captain Klenk. for permitting the boy? such a splendid educational trip, Supt. D. M. Thompson also figured fig-ured in the arrangements for the successful trip. Besides Chaplain Henry and Mr. Morris the party consisted of Mr. Palmer Schiele, Division of Grazing foreman, and his wife, who is the flawless accompanist of the Glee club, and Mr. and Mi-s. Anderson. |
