Miss Wanda Webb has returned home from Salt Lake City, where J she has employment, for a visit, j Ovando Gubler left last week j for Provo where he will attend ' summer school at the B.Y.U. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Robinson spent July 24 here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Averett of St. George spent July 24 here with Mrs. Averett's sister, Mrs. Clyde DeMill. The program for July 24 started on the evening of July 23 with a campfire party on the public square. Most of the townspeople, both young and old were in attendance. at-tendance. The program was opened open-ed with prayer by Joseph Gubler and the numbers were as follows: Community singing led by Walter Church; duet, Alice and Winferd Gubler; tribute to the pioneers, La Vina Segler; trio, Vilate, Genevia and Hazel Hardy; duet, Mary Hardy and Ossie Stevens; pioneer skit, directed by Hazel Woodbury; song, Bert and Nellie Woodbury, of Hurricane; song, by Mary A. Gubler. A Virginia Reel was conducted by LaFell Iverson. The closing number was a song by the entire group after which the benediction was offered by Winfred Gubler. The crowd in the evening was brought together by the playing of the band organized under the direction of Donworth Gubler. The band also serenaded Hurricane and LaVerkin early on the morning of July 24, beginning at about 5 a.m. Another program was rendered at 9:30 a.m. at which the opening open-ing music was furnished by the band with the following program: Community singing, "Utah, the Star of the West"; prayer by Chaplain Eunice Hardy; chorus by the D.U.P., directed by Thora Gubler; tribute to the pioneers, by Camilla Judd; response, by Brigham Young (LaFell Iverson); talk, by the Indian Chief (Wick-ley (Wick-ley Gubler); remarks by Miss Utah (Belva Sanders); trio, by Quinta Nielsen, Chauncey Hardy and Vonda Hardy, "Utah We Love Thee"; short sketch of local pioneers pio-neers by Pearl Henroid and the closing song by the D.U.P. Both programs were under the direction of the captain of the local D.U.P. camp, Mrs. Mary A. Gubler. There were Indians and appropriate decorations at both programs and all numbers were well rendered. The afternoon sports were under the supervision of the Elders wi-v Walter Segler directing and takim charge. There were many j' teresting contests and races. |
