Show Federal Funds Received For Payment On School Gymnasium Work Reaching the three-quarters completed com-pleted mark, the Public Works administration financed school gymnasium in St. George received last week another payment of Federal funds in accordance with the contract signed with the Government when construction on the propect was started. Announcement An-nouncement of the payment, under the terms of the 1938 Public Works Administration Re-1 covery act, which made a 45 per cent outright Federal grant available avail-able to the community for the construction of the much needed project, was "made by George A. Voris, PWA resident engineer inspector. in-spector. The check for $5,555.06 represents repre-sents 35 per cent of the Federal grant and covers work already completed on the project. Mr. 'Voris explains that under the terms of the contract between be-tween local officials and the Federal Government and in order to provide employment and stimulate stimu-late heavy industry, the Federal Government makes this contribution contribu-tion to aid in construction of permanent public improvements. The project is required to be built by a private contractor who has won his contract under open and competitive bidding. The contractor con-tractor is paid by the local government for work completed and the local government is in turn reimbursed by the Federal Government to the extent of 45 per cent of the cost of the project. pro-ject. "Progress on the local project is highly satisfactory. Work is already completed on the building build-ing proper. Still to be done is the interior finishing and the furnishing of over $6,000.00 worth of equipment for the auditorium, shop and homemaking rooms. The new building will be ready for use at the commencement of the new school year in September", states Mr. Voris. |
