Show Full Day's Fete Planned For July 24th Program To Start With Salute At Day-Break; Day-Break; Ends With Dance One of the best 24th programs to be held in St. George in years-is years-is promised for next Monday by a committee comprised of the various clubs, civic and church organizations of the city. The program will open at daybreak with a salute fired by the American Ameri-can Legion and will continue on throughout the day to the final event which will be the bathing beauty contest held in the open-air open-air dance pavilion. Featured in the day's program will be entertainment for the Pioneers which will be under the direction of the D.U.P. Following this will be the sports program-for program-for the children which is under the direction of Grant Whitehead, WPA recreational leader. In the afternoon there will be a softball contest between the Firemen and the National Guardsmen. This is a regular league game and promises plenty of action. After the softball game there will be a game between the St. George club and the LaVerkin team. To-date To-date the LaVerkin boys have a decided edge this year, but the local team, under -the coaching of Reed Blake is out to prove they have the stuff of which winners are made. Street Dance Starting at 8:30 there will be a street dance which will feature the old time dances. Of special interest will be the contest between be-tween teams entered by the Lions club, Rotary club, Legion WPA recreational groups and others who promise to dance the Virginia Vir-ginia Reel better than it was ever danced in the "gay nineties". Gordon Whitehead started the ball rolling on this contest when he opined that "the St. George Rotary club would challenge any group to dance the Virginia Reel". He received immediate response re-sponse from the Lions members present and Grant Whitehead, who declared that the WPA recreation rec-reation organization could put some real competition in the field with both a young and older team ready to do their stuff. Children's Sport The sports program outlined for the children is as follows: Races for children, one to four years and four to six years; nail driving contest for women, potato pota-to peeling contest, girls and women; wo-men; 'musical chair race, men and women; obstacle relay races, mixed mix-ed group, passing ring on toothpick; tooth-pick; cracker eating contest, boys and girls 12 years of age; apple diving contest. 13 and 14 years; diving for money in a pail of flour (Continued on page four) July 24th Program (Continued from first page) pillow fighting contest; battle1 royal, ages up to 12', one from 12 to 14: horseshoe pitching. With the street dance as an opener and the bathing beauty contest as a feature at the regular regu-lar dance, it is anticipated that a large crowd will turn out to dance "until the cows come home". |
