Show Sugar Company Makes Final Payments To Washington County SeediGrowers I Approximately $120,000 Taid To Farmers; An Additional $1'2,000 Went To Workers In Beet Seed Plant Final paxnients were released for the 1937 beet seed crop last week. Total payments for beet seed delivered to St. George cleaning clean-ing plant was approximately $120,000.00. In addition to seed payments there was paid out for labor by the Utah-Idaho Sugar Beet Company between 11 and $12,000.00. While 1937 beet seed crop fell a little below the 1936 crop it was a very good average of production and many individual fields were fully as good as in 1936, which was the banner year, declares Moroni Jensen, district supervisor. "Farmers in other districts growing beets for the manufacturing manufactur-ing of Sugar in Northern Utah, Idaho and other districts where where the Utah-Idaho Sugar company com-pany operates factories for the manufacturing of sugar are well pleased with the blight resistant home grown seed. As it is resistant re-sistant to the white fly disease which prevails over many of the districts. The home grown seed produces fully as good or better beet crops as that grown from seed purchased purchas-ed from foreign countries", said Mr. Jensen. The last of the factories of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company operating opera-ting is nearly to complete their seasons run of slicing beets and manufacturing sugar. Payment to Utah-Idaho growers fr beets reached $3,737,316.00 and in the neighborhood of $-150,000.00 has been paid for labor. Indications are that a large beet acreage for the manufacturing of sugar will be planted in all districts dis-tricts for the spring of 1938. The present growing beet seed crop in this territory is in splendid condition and if nothing unforseen happens through climatic conditions condi-tions it is expected we will have a banner crop of beet seed for the 1938 crop, Mr. Jensen said. |
