Show I Funeral Services Held Thursday For i Catherine Ksm&iin Cheney Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon in the south ward chapel for Catherine Ham--blin Cheney, who died Tuesday following a long illness. Services were in charge of Dr. W. C. Cox of the west ward bishopric. Mrs. Nemmie Pearce accompanied the following numbers: "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown" and "Sometime, We'll L'nderstand", by Emma Hememvay, Matilda Soreii-son, Soreii-son, LaPrele Snow, Lillian O. Cox and Viola Gentry; solo. "My Task", George H. Lytle. and duet "Jesus. Lover of My Soul", Lillian Lil-lian O. Cox and Viola Gentry. Mrs. Ada Cannon was at the pipe organ. Thomas S. Terry said he had known Catherine Cheney, "Aunt Kate", to' her many friends, for 61 years. They had lived as neighbors much of the time since his earliest recollections. "Aunt Kate was very kind to children and was a favorite among them", he said, "and gave the best years of her life to caring for her invalid in-valid mother, and after her mother's death, of rearing the six children younger than herself". Isaiah Cox said he felt honored to be asked to speak, having lived neighbor to her in St. George the past 16 years and worked in the Temple with her and her father, he had come to appreciate her diligence and efficiency in (Continued on page eight) Catherine Cheney Death (Continued from first page) caring for the sick, and her works of love and human service. D. M. Hatch from Victor, Idaho, said his earliest memories of life in Southeastern Idaho are associated asso-ciated with "Aunt Kate" as she was also known during her long residence in that locality. He spoke of her parents, brothers and sisters and told how she had taken up her 140 acre homestead and from her own earnings had built the first hotel in Victor. Many benefitted by her skill, her calmness, her gentleness and soundness, he stated. Bp. W. C. Cov thanked all who had extended any kindness to the deceased during her illness and for the services and expressed appreciation ap-preciation for the good life of Catherine Hamblin Cheney. Prayers were by Luther M. Terry and Anson P. Winsor, both of Enterprise. Burial was in the St. George city cemetary. Attending the services from other localities were Wayne Cheney, stepson of Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Cyril Hamblin and M. O. Hatch, of Victor, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Riding, of Veyo; Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Terry and Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Winsor, of Enterprise; Enter-prise; Mr. and Mrs. William Hamblin and Mr. and Mrs. James Hamblin, of Roosevelt, Utah. |
