Show Chimes Now Installed In South Ward Chapel B. F. Pullman of Salt Lake City completed Tuesday afternoon the installation of the chimes for the south ward chapel organ. This unit for the organ is known as the Mass Cathedral chimes, and according to Mr. Pullman, who assembled the pipe organ, and to Seth Harper, organist, these are among the best sets for chapel use. The ensemble consists of 21 perpendicular bells or tubes, ranging rang-ing in length from 27 to approximately ap-proximately 80 inches, and are suspended from a bracket centering center-ing the grill of the pipe organ. They 'are made of highly polished brass heavily lacquered, electrically electric-ally connected with the keyboard of the pipe organ console, with controls that permit six variations of intensity. The tone is sustained sus-tained or released with dampers. Those who witnessed the preliminary prelimin-ary tryouts Tuesday, when the installation in-stallation was completed, were highly gratified with the possibilities possibili-ties this new unit provides. Chimes are known to be a traditional feature of churches and cathedrals, even from the earliest legends, and not only for Christmas programs, but for weddings, wed-dings, and other events, will add materially to the music features. The chimes program arranged for Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, is now well under way with rehearsals re-hearsals and those in charge say this is to be an outstanding performance per-formance in this city, especially with the addition of this chimes ensemble. |
