Show Parowan Stake Home Dedicated Here Monday Before Large Audience This Building First of Seven Similar Houses To Be Built Here The Parowan stake home of the Temple court is completed. Dedicatory Dedi-catory services, held at 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 13, were attended by more than 450 people from the seven stakes of this Temple district, dis-trict, many from Parowan stake. After inspecting the interior of of the home the crowds assembled in the yards west of the building : where the program ensued, with Lysle Corry of Cedar1 City, in ' charge. Seated on improvised ; plank-benches and the foundations of the Kanab stake house, which i is one of the three other units of the Temple court under construction, con-struction, there was a general removal of coats, the sunshine being almost uncomfortably warm. Musical numbers included congregational con-gregational singing of ."High On , The Mountain Top", and "Now ( Let Us Rejoice In the Day of Salvation"; vocal duets, "The , Bridge Builders" and "Oh, Mom- ing Hour", by Mrs. Bettinson and Mrs. Southwick, both of Cedar 1 City and a solo, "God Bless This House" by Mrs. Keith Macfarlane, i ordinance worker from Parowan " stake. Invocation was by George 0 F. Whitehead. Speakers were Pres. H. S. " Snow, of the St. George Temple; Harold B. Lee, head of the church security program; Pres. W. R, Young, of the Manti Temple; Mrs. Barbara Adams, stake relief society president from Parowan, who has had charge of interior furnishings and equipment of the new building; Lysle Correy, who supervised the erection of the building; G. A. Wood, general construction foreman and Parowan Paro-wan stake project leader, and Pres. William R. Palmer, of Paro- " wan stake, who is recognized as -j. father of this particular Temple home building project in connec-', connec-', tion with the church security program. President Snow said, in part: i "This building marks one step further in the fulfillment of 3 3 Brigham Young's prophecy that this Temple should stand in the 1' center of the valley and be sur-.1". sur-.1". rounded by homes extending to the hills. He rejoiced in the ac-complishment ac-complishment and suggested the possible achievement in such a program. He also read a letter (Continued on page seven) n Dedicate Parowan Stake Home Here Monday, March 13 (Continued from first page) from the St. George Chamber of Commerce, the City of St. George, by the mayor and city council-men; council-men; the St. George Rotary club, the Washington County Board of Commissioners and the St. George Lions club, all commending Parowan Paro-wan stake and extending offers of cooperation. Harold B. Lee hailed this as a progressive achievement in the church welfare program and said: "this building will do more to begin the work of establishing the spirit of peace, happiness, comfort and security of the aged members mem-bers of the church, who will delight de-light to spend their declining years in this religious activity. President Young of, the Manti Temple, said this service brought to his mind the spirit of earlier days -when the Temple was likewise like-wise erected by contributed labor, of when people met at the old Bowery for religious services, of the great sacrifices made in such ventures and of the challenge to other Temple districts to carry on. Mr. Correy set the cash cost of the home at $3,985.69 and G. A. Wood added the estimate on labor contributed at $2,220. Attention was called to the plan of the building as being harmonious with the structure outlines of the Temple, and both told of the cooperation co-operation given by the laborers of Parowan stake in putting over this propect, making special mention men-tion of J. H. Messer, electrician; "Ep" Jensen, carpenter; to St. George City, Leigh Furniture Co. -i n .i TltU "D.tPrtv -m and Southern Utah Power company, com-pany, all of whom have given generous cooperation and assistance. assist-ance. Pres. W. O. Bentley of St. George stake, praised Pres. Wm. Palmer as the father of this movement and promised that St. George stake will also erect its housing unit in this Temple court-and court-and will continue to assist others who build here. In concluding remarks President Palmer spoke with deep appreciation apprecia-tion for the cooperation and support sup-port received in this building project, pro-ject, of his great joy in viewing the completed structure which is paid for. He offered the dedicatory dedica-tory prayer, again expressing the early spirit of pioneer gratefulness grateful-ness for blessings received and the hope for the future of this program. |
