Show Hurricane Mrs. Katharine Larson Reporter Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carr of Las Vegas were guests in the home of Mrs. Carr's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Atkins Hinton from Christmas eve until December 27. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dalton, and daughters, the Misses Densie and Mae; Anthony Isom and La Mar Syphus, were Christmas week motorists to Los Angeles where the Daltons were joined by another daughter, Miss Aleath, who had gone earlier in the week to Los Angeles as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Gifford and son, Gerald of Springdale. Mr. Dalton's prime object in making the trip was to obtain prices on materials such as steel window frames and I beams to be used in the public library now under construction con-struction here. Miss Joy Syphus returned to her home at Las Vegas January .2 after a happy week spent with her father, Alfred Syphus and family. Mrs. Hyrum Bradshaw and Miss Ramona Wood entertained on Saturday night at a bridal shower for Miss Carol Bradshaw, who is to become the wife of Arden Sampson of Las Vegas during January. The party was given at the home of Miss Bradshaw's grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Spendlove. Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Karl Larson of the birth of a daughter, December 22 to Mr. and Mrs. Elvis B. Terry of Prove The Terrys, who resided at Hurricane Hur-ricane for a number of years, are well remembered for the splendid teaching they did in the high school, Mr. Terry in the music department de-partment and Mrs. Terry as instructor in-structor of commercial subjects. Mr. Terry is now employed at the Lincoln high school at Provo. An evening of intellectual entertainment enter-tainment and pleasure was afforded afford-ed the conjoint mutuals of Hurricane Hur-ricane Tuesday night when H. Lorenzo Reid of Dixie junior college col-lege presented his lecture and lantern slides on the local and geological history of Zion Canyon. Af a farewell dance during the holidays in honor of Clell Covington, Coving-ton, who will leave soon for a mission to the Netherlands, $200 was raised by the north ward to assist the young man in his foreign labors. Before the dance at 6 p.m. a "piping hot" dinner was served to 50 people, again at 9 o'clock the relief society and M.I.A. workers had additional banquet plates prepared and a large number of persons were served at this time. With the proceeds from the dance and the supper, plus generous donations from those who attended, the largest sum ever to be raised at a missionary farewell in Hurricane Hurri-cane was presented to the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Covington. Mr. and Mrs. George Grimshaw and family moved to Cedar City on Saturday. Mr. Grimshaw was manager of the Southern Utah Power Co. here and was. well liked by everyone. His vacancy will be filled by Clarence Jones of St. George, whose family joined him at Hurricane on Sunday. Mr. Jones, who has at different times worked in this territory, is welcomed wel-comed in his new office by the townspeople. Mr. and Mrs. Golden Taylor, owners of the Taylor Beauty Shop enpnt New Years Day at New 1 Harmony. Glen Hollahan. who was construction con-struction boss on the Hurricane-La Hurricane-La Verkin bridge, was a business visitor over the week-end. He is employed at Lewiston, Idaho, but his wife and two daughters are spending the winter in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Jessie Gibson spent New Years day with her sister at Rockvillo. Mrs. Eva Wood and family of Kanarraville were holiday guests of Mrs. Wood's mother, Mrs. Ad-die Ad-die Ciipps. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Petty of Cedar City visited over the weekend week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Campbell and Mrs. Mae B. Petty. Mr. and Mrs. William E. Woodbury Wood-bury were dinner guests on New Years day at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Bradshaw of Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw moved into their new home a few weeks back. Mr. and Mrs. Claudius Hirschi were guests on Monday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bradshaw at Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Snow and Merrill P. Fawson returned Monday Mon-day night from Provo and Salt Lake City respectively where they had spent the Christmas recess. re-cess. Mr. Fawson was happy to announce that a son was born to them January 1, 1939 at the L.D.S. hospital. Mrs. Fawson and the baby boy are expected to arrive in Hurricane within the next few weeks. After the dance on New Years eve the following couples. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Nuttall, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stanworth. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Naegle and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Williams gathered gather-ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claudius Hirschi where light refreshments re-freshments were served and New Year resolutions thought of. Mr. and Mrs. Lenzi Sullivan of St. George and Richard Sullivan of Las Vegas visited with their sisters, Mrs. Blanche Spendlove, Mrs. Grace Staheli and Mrs. Lettie Whitney on New Years day. |
