Show St. George Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Meeting; Elects Directors . Over $1100 Handled During Year; 161 Letters Answered And Many Projects Worked On By Directors The annual meeting of the St. George Chamber of Commerce was held Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Wadsworth Theatre building. The secretary's financial report and the year's activities were discussed in addition to electing elect-ing directors for the ensuing year. Pres. Marion Snow was in charge. Over $1100 was handled by the Chamber of Commerce this last year, it was explained by Laron Andrus, secretary. Of this amount $695 came through memberships of which there were 91. A general break-down shows that $225 went for the rent of the CCC camp, office expense was $34.90, peace officers' convention, $100; stenographic steno-graphic ex j-nse, $22; fruit festival, festi-val, $288.59; salary of secretary, $150; civic betterment, advertising etc., $225.58; airport, $2.21: St. George-Mead Lake road, $40 and one or two other minor amounts. Mr. Andrus reported a balance on hand of $55.89. About 161 letters have been written and many circular letters sent out pertaining to local problems. pro-blems. An attempt was made to keep E. W. Davis, government entomologist here, but was unsuccessful. un-successful. Work has been done on the Snow Canyon road project pro-ject and some success is reported in that the road commission has alloted money for a start of this road. The commission has also been contacted in an effort to secure the widening of highway 91. The Chamber of Commerce sent men to Cedar City several times to meet with groups in an (Continued on page ten) Chamber of Commerce (Continued from fh"st page) effort to have the road routed through Enterprise and report that this road has been designated as a Federal Aid project, to be completed as soon as funds are available. The group was also instrumental instrument-al in helping to keep the Soil Conservation office here. Financial Finan-cial aid was given the Zion Pageant Page-ant and many other problems considered and worked on by the group. The" Chamber has given favorable support to a geneologi-cal geneologi-cal library, a cold storage plant and are at the present time working work-ing for the establishment of a road from St. George to Mead Lake. Considerable time was given at the meeting to the considering of the problem of having a representative rep-resentative at the Southern Utah Civic clubs meeting and at the Legislature meeting called by the group for Salt Lake City this week-end. It was the consensus of thex group present that this needed to be done and it was so recommended to the directors. Directors Elected Those who were elected as directors of the Chamber for the coming year are as follows: B. Glen Smith, college representative; representa-tive; John Schmutz, city council; R. N. Ashby, Rotary; Gordon Mathis, Legion; Howard Cannon, Lions, and Harold Miles, Business Peoples' organization. In addition to this there were three holdovers, hold-overs, namely: Marion Snow, Lawrence Wadsworth and Laron Andrus. The representatives of the Rotary, Lions and Business Peoples' organization are the 2-year 2-year terms. |
