Show AN ORDINANCE AX ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS SEC-TIONS 116, 119. 120, 121, 122, 123. and 129 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF ST. GEORGE, AND SECTION 130 of SAID REVISED ORDINANCES PUBLISHED IN 1915, AS AMENDED AMEND-ED SINCE SAID DATE. Re it ordained by the City Council of the City of St. George: Section 1. That Sections 116,119, 120, 121, 122, 123, and 129 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of St. George, 1915, and Section 130 of said Revised Ordinances as amended since 1915, be amended to read as follows: Section 116. Licenses to be Issued Quarterly. Licenses for any vocation voca-tion or business for which a license is required shall be issued for terms of three months ending March 31st. June 30th, Sept. 30th, and December 31st, respectively; and no license shall be issued to end at any other date than one of those above mentioned: mention-ed: provided that persons desiring to procure a license for a period longer lon-ger than three months may abtain such license for periods of six months, nine months or twelve months, by paying for said licenses at the same rates in proportion as for the three months period. Section 119. Bankers, Brokers, Etc. Every Banker, and money changer before commencing or carrying carry-ing on his business must make a statement under oath, sworn to before be-fore the mayor or recorder, of the value of the amount of capital and surplus so employed; which statement state-ment shall be filed and quarterly licenses issued there on as follows: Upon capital and surplus of $50.-000 $50.-000 and not exceeding $100.- 000, $30.00 Upon a capital and surplus of $2 5,-000 5,-000 and not exceeding $50,-000, $50,-000, $20.00 Upon a capital or surplus of $25,- 000 or less, 15.00 When no capital is employed. 10.00 Section 120. Merchants and Retailers. Re-tailers. Every merchant or retailer before commencing or carrying on his business, shall make a statement of the cash value of all goods, wares, and other merchandise which he may have in his possession or under his control, whether controlled by him or consigned to him for sale, which statement shall be sworn to before the mayor or city recorder by the merchant making it, or his duly authorized agent; provided, that if any merchant shall increase his stock beyond the limit of his class of business busi-ness during the period of his license, he shall procure an additional license for such increase. The recorder shall file all such statements in alphabetical alphabeti-cal order, and quarterly licenses may be issued thereon as follows: Over $25,000 capital, $40.00 Over $20,000 and not exceeding $25,000, 35.00 Over $15,000 and not exceeding $20,000, $30.00 Over $10,000 and not exceeding $15,000, 25.00 Over $6,000 and not exceeding $10,000 20.00 Over $3,000 and not exceeding $6,- .000, 15.00 Over $1,000 and not exceeding $3,- 000, 10.00 Not exceeding $1,000 5.00 Section 121. Hotels and Boarding House. Whoever shall rent rooms, furnished or unfurnished, and board the occupants of such rented rooms, excepting students attending school in the City of St. George, or board and lodge more than three persons, except students as aforesaid. Shall be deemed a hotel or boarding house keeper. Every hotel or boarding house keeper shall make a statement duly verified, as to the location of the house, and the number of persons which said house will reasonably accommodate. And upon the filing of such statement state-ment and the payment of the amount hereinafter mentioned, the recorder shall issue quarterly licenses thereon as follows: For houses that will accommodate more than three persons and not over six persons, $2.50 For houses that will accommodate more than six persons and not over fifteen persons, 5.00 For houses that will accommodate more than fifteen persons, ....10.00 Section 122. Restaurants and Cafes. Sub-division (1). Whoever shall keep any house or place for furnishing fur-nishing meals without lodging in the city, is declared to be a restaurant or cafe keeper, and shall pay a quarterly quarter-ly license of $5.00 Sub-division (2). Lodging Houses.. Hous-es.. Any person who shall keep any house or place for furnishing lodgings without meals, within the city, shall be deemed a lodging house keeper, and shall pay a quarterly license of, $4.00 Section 123. Meat Market. Every keeper of a meat market shall pay a quarterly license of $10.00 Provided that any person other than a regularly licensed dealer intending to offer beef or other meat for sale, must pay $1.50 into the city treasury for a permit to sell each beef, and fifty cents for a permit to sell each sheep, goat, swine, or veal, except where he sells to a licensed dealer. Section 12 9. Licenses for peddling ped-dling or hawking as above described may be issued for the term of three months, on payment in advance of the following sums. For a license to peddle fruit, $3.00 For a license to peddle vegetables, fruit and garden produce, butter, eggs, poultry, fish and game, $10.00 Provided, that nothing herein shall be deemed to apply to persons offering offer-ing for sale, butter and eggs, fruits or vegetables, raised or produced by themselves; or to persons selling to regularly licensed dealers in such products within the city. For a license to peddle notions or small wares, $10.00 For a license to peddle merchandise, merchan-dise, or other property not otherwise other-wise licensed under this chapter chap-ter 40.00 For a license to peddle or hawk medicine 40.00 For a license to sell, vend or peddle or otherwise dispose of machinery, wagons, buggies, or other vehicles, stoves, ranges, hardware, tools, implements, etc, 20.00 Provided, that nothing in this section sec-tion shall be construed to prohibit any regularly established merchant operating under merchants' license from selling or otherwise disposing of any article herein mentioned. Section 13 0. Miscellaneous Licenses. Licen-ses. Every person before engaging in or pursuing any business, vocation or calling hereinafter mentioned, shall obtain a license so to do, unless otherwise provided, and make quarterly quart-erly payments into the city treasury, in advance, as follows: Druggists $30.00 Book Agent 5.00 For license for a sewing machine agent 10.00 For a license for a photographer. photograph-er. on Solicitors of crayon, oil or other productions, and enlargers of portraits por-traits or pictures, 10.00 For a music 'or theatrical hall, 10.00 For an electric theater, 30.00 For a circus or equestrian exhibition exhibi-tion for each day 12.00 For a traveling menagerie per day, 10.00 Laundry, per quarter., 5.00 For a dancing hall, per quarter, quar-ter, $25.00 Vulcanizing shop per quarter, 5.00 For a shooting gallery, 10.00 For a skating rink, 10.00 For a Garage keeper and automobile automo-bile dealer, 10.00 For a service station, 5.00 For a gasoline tank and pump, not connected with a garage, service station, vulcanizating shop 3.00 For a license for a theatrical representation, re-presentation, concert, ball, lecture, dance, or tricks of legerdemain, for each performance or exhibition in an unlicensed hall, when tickets are sold or an admission fee is charged 5.00 Provided that for entertainments given for purely charitably - j volent purposes, tb-a 'hal0J may remit the licttri 1 herein. It shall be the duty of the City Recorder, by and with the approval of the Mayor, to fix and determine the amount of any license fee for anv business or undertaking not herein, before mentioned;- provided, that such license shall not be less -than $5.00 per quarter, nor more than $150 per quarter. It shall be unlaw, ful for any person to conduct any business not heretofore listed with-out with-out paying the license fee as assessed by the city recorder and mayor as provided herein. Section. 2.
