Show MIDWINTER CARNIVAL IS HEW SUCCESSFUL Weather favored the first day of the Dixie Mid-winter Carnival, Monday, Mon-day, the day being bright and comfortably com-fortably warm in the afternoon. The sports started at one o'clock on Monday and Tuesday afternoons and were intended for three days, but a snowstorm Tuesday afternoon put the city park ground in such shape that it might prove dangerous for horses and riders, so the third day's program was called off, except the dance at night. The first event Monday was calf roping. There were 20 entrants and first place ended in a tie between Jack. Brown and James Hecklethorn, time 43 sec. Luther Swaner was third, time 44 . In the broncho riding there were six entries, the winner not being determined until the conclusion of the sports. The gang roping was won by Jack Brown. In this the calves were all turned loose and the winner was the first to rope his calf and take it back to the pen. It caused lots of fun. Chair bulldogging was a scream and caused fun and hilarity galore,. In this there were twenty entries. Nineteen chairs were spread out in a very large circle and when the band started to play and the riders circled around the outside of the chairs. When the band stopped the riders threw themselves off their horses and trid to sit in a chair. This was repeated, re-peated, a chair being taken away each time until but one chair was left, and the rush for that chair when the band stopped playing was worth seeing. Ed. Fisher was the winner. Twenty riders entered for the band box race, which was also highly amusing. Twenty parcels,, each containing con-taining an article of ladies' wearing apparel, were placed about 100 yards from the contestants, who rode to the spot, put the article on and rode back. Lyndyll Foremaster was the winner. The cowboy reunion dance at night was well attended and everybody seemd to enjoy it..
