Show SECOND CLASS P. 0. FOR ST. GEORGE Due to the increase in business the past year it is hoped the local post office of-fice will be advanced from third to second class. The higher classification will probably take effect the first of the year official notice of the change is expected w:ithin the next two months. During the last visit of C. F. Dutton post office inspector, to the local of-' of-' fine, Postmaster Walter Cannon was informed that if the sales of stamped stock for this quarter exceeded the amount of business done last year during dur-ing the same quarter, that the office would be granted a higher classification. classifica-tion. Mr. Cannon reports business this year to be far greater than ever before. To be rated as second class a post office must sell $8000 worth of stamps and stamped stock per year, and this office has exceeded that figure during 1927 by a large amount. The advanced classification will mean more clerical allowance, better equipment for the handling of mail and to the public will mean more favorable fav-orable prospects of securing a federal building. The increase in the amount of business busi-ness handled by the local post office reflects the steady and persistent growth of this section each year. The amount of Christmas mail handled this year greatly exceeded that of the past year. i |
