Show LARGE CROWD AT RACE MEET OPENING Taking into consideration the extremely ex-tremely wet weather the past few days which kept outside people from coming com-ing in to the race meet, between five and six hundred were on hand the opening day. The track was in good shape and some fast time was made. Finish Judges were A. B. Andrus and W. B. Mathis. Foul judges were John Pymm and M. W. Andrus. Starter was John W. Pace. The following was the program Wednesday: Wed-nesday: No. 1 220-Yard Matched Race ($500 side bet), 3-year-old Colts Ucan, owned own-ed by Clark Bros., Cedar City, and Uker, owned by Ben Sorenson, St. George. This race was postponed. No. 2 Mile, 2-year-old Colts-Moke, Colts-Moke, owned by Clark Bros., Cedar City, and Atta Boy, owned by Jack Wadsworth, St. George. Winner Moke. No. 3 ll: Mile Relay, Cow Ponies Benson's String, Enterprise, Utah, and Spilsbury String, Cedar City, Utah. Winner Spilsbury string. No. 4 Mile Free For All Sleepy Cal, owned by G. T. Smith, Boise Idaho, Ida-ho, and Blue Eyes, owned by Ed Hig-bee, Hig-bee, St. George. Winner Sleepy Cal. No. 5 Mile Matched Race $100 Side Bet Glen Rowe, owned by D. C. Watson, St. George, and Colly, owned by Chet Whitehead, St. George. Winner Win-ner Glen Rowe. No. 6 Matched Race, 220 Yards, between be-tween Ballards' Sad Sam and Spils-burys Spils-burys Tom Thumb. Winner Tom Thumb. Wednesday evening the Legion put on a wrestling match and boxing bouts at the gymnasium. The main event was a championship wrestling match - between Harry Jones and Dean Park. I After 53 minutes of wrestling Jones secured se-cured the first fall. Park was unable to return to the ring. In the preliminary boxing bouts Christian won from Leany; Andrus won from McArthur, and Leach of Kanab won from Crosby. The racing program for Thursday was postponed. The Legion put on several boxing and wrestling matches at the old theatre in the afternoon. |
