Show IMPRESSIONS EXPRESSED ON CONVENTION Business and Professional Men and Peace Officer Express Ex-press Appreciation for Inspirational In-spirational Gathering Here Impressed With Convention The following communication has been received from Albert E. Miller, former state senator and former mayor of St. George, and who has long been an outstanding out-standing public worker in southern south-ern Utah. He writes: Editor Washington County News: Realizing that it was partly through your work that the American Am-erican Legion convention was held in St. George and that you being a member might prevent you from giving the needed expressions ex-pressions of appreciation of this convention and its activities, I though possibly you and the people peo-ple of St. George would appreciate appre-ciate the observations of one who was on the sidelines. I regret very much that more people were not aware of the fact that your convention sessions ses-sions were open to the general public as the Electric theater gallery afforded ample room where visiters could have been accommodated. In the public meeting, largely attended by the younger generation genera-tion as well as many of the older people, all could not help but be impressed by the patriotism patri-otism shown by the Legion and Auxiliary and the proper respect for the flag. Not being a military mili-tary nation where every day possibly pos-sibly these things are impressed im-pressed upon the minds of the people we have very little opportunity op-portunity to be instructed, therefore, there-fore, I think that it would be j a wonderful opportunity for any community to have a Legion meet whether it be a state convention con-vention or a local post which would give these instructions. While sitting as a visitor in the convention meetings I . could i not help but be impressed with the characters who were there as leaders of this great organization. organ-ization. In the resolutions pre-( pre-( Continued on page 5) WHAT THEY SAY' (Continued from page 1) pared and passed and the discussions dis-cussions led by such men as Judge George W. Worthen, Scott Mathieson. Judge Geo. S. Bal-lif. Bal-lif. Joseph E. Nelson. Glenn Johnson. Judge LeRoy H. Cox, former Governor Charles R. Ma-bey, Ma-bey, and other leaders of the state, it was indeed inspiring. This convention has done much to impress upon the minds of the people of this section the high ideals and real patriotism. of this organization, and St. George is to be congratulated on having been honored by such a convention and because of the expressions of appreciation of the orderly conduct of the people and discipline maintained by our public officers. Expressions of appreciation for the Legion and its influence for good would not be complete were we to fail in giving proper prop-er recognition to the Auxiliary organization and the leadership of s u eta women as Mrs. E. E. Jenkins, Mrs. George Ballif. Mrs. Malcolm Douglas, Mrs. Harlin, Mrs. John N. Davis and Mrs. Collins, aided by many of our local workers, who, taking part in any organization adds dignity dig-nity and prestige to it. So again as a citizen I wish to express the appreciation of the people of St. George for this convention. |
