Show WOODWARD scnooL NEWS Those students reported by their teachers to be on the honor hon-or roll thus far this year are: Miss Harmon's first grade Leo Canfield, Luen Atkin, Mary Mary Judd, Hanna Terry, Henry Hen-ry Empey, Edward Gardner, Dick Schmutz, Dean Webb and Mu-rial Mu-rial Cannon. Miss Sorenson's fourth Delo-ris Delo-ris Sullivan, Rose Riding, Dartha Leavitt, Edna Rae Gardner, La-ree La-ree Empey, Norma Beacham, Afton Bastian, Clay Williams, Merl Riding, Andrus Lund and Tracy Earl. In Miss Harmon's first grade a reading contest is in progress, and the boys and girls of both sections are showing a great deal of enthusiasm. Luen Atkin is leading, having read eleven books, and Henry Empey is second sec-ond with nine. This grade has started having written arithmetic and spelling. A spelling review of twenty-five twenty-five of the hardest words studied stud-ied during a month by Miss Crosby's third grade was given Friday. Twenty-nine students were present and twenty of that number made perfect records. Three had only one error and three had two errors. Miss Bessie Atkin's room has on display a miniature of the Woolworth building brought to school by Leland I-Iirschi. It will lie used in connection with the study of the geography of New York City. This class is preparing a preliminary pre-liminary program to be given at th e Shivwits reservation Sunday school this week. Several ot the grades in school are entering . the street safety essay contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Auxil-iary. Prizes will be awarded to the students from each grade writing the best composition in that section. A writing contest was given by Miss Joyce Harrison in her second grade Friday, and the best work was posted for all the students to see. The very best writing was1 done by Billie Nell Horn. Estell McDowell was the best of the boys. The students o Miss Larson's sixth grade are working hard to join the state reading circle, the membership of which requires re-quires that they read eighteen books in the following fields: Literature, 5; history and biography, biog-raphy, 5; geography and travel, 4; nature, science and invention, inven-tion, 2; art, music, civics and morals, 2. Wendell Motter is leading the class now, having finished his requirements in literature. lit-erature. Miss Leona Jackson, a training train-ing teacher at the Woodward, is ill at the Washington County hospital. Miss Violet Spendlove, a training teacher, is conducting an interesting project in home geography in Miss Tillie Win-sor's Win-sor's third grade. |
