Show ML OFFICIALS PLAN TO OPPOSE Three Western Railroad Heads Announce Determination Deter-mination to Prevent Building Build-ing of Arizona Strip Line Heads of three western railroads rail-roads have notified the interstate commerce commission that they will oppose efforts of the promoters pro-moters of the Denver Pacific railroad to obtain permission to build the S50 mile line from Denver to the coast. C. R. Gray, president of .the Union Pacific; W. B. Storey of the Santa Fe, and J. S. Pye-att Pye-att of the Denver and Rio Grande Western have informed the commission that they will intervene in-tervene in opposition. The road would compete with all three at some points. Correspondence between Oliver Oli-ver E. Sweet, director of the commission's bureau of finance, and Coleman Crenshaw of Salt Lake City, president of the company, com-pany, has brought out the fact that it is planned to operate the line with electricity. This was not set forth in the application. The Denver Pacific railroad would run from Denver, Colo., to San Pedro, Calif., by a route much shorter than any in existence. ex-istence. Its promoters claim that they could haul California fruit from the coast to Denver in 20 hours, as compared with the 90 hours required by the present routes. |
