Show DIXIE COLLEGE The minstrel, "Land O' Cotton." Cot-ton." being prepared by Mr. McAllister, Mc-Allister, is developing rapidly. It will be put on, on the lights of the 17th and the ISth, m the Wadsworth theater. This show will certainly be well worth the attendance. The following capable cap-able cast has been selected: Joe, EHvin Stout; Jack, Harold Mace; Tom, George Whipple; Harry, Merlin Christensen; Dick, Keith Ross; Jim, Carl Foster; Mr. White, Leland Lamereaux. Soloists Solo-ists are: Leland Lamoreaux, Merlin Mer-lin Christensen, Lelwin Wilkinson, Wilkin-son, and Garth Sandburg. Mr. McAllister is being assisted assist-ed in the direction by Mrs. Ila Finnicum. The advance basketball schedule sched-ule is: Thursday, January 10, the high school plays its first league game at Parowan. Friday and 'Saturday, January IS and 19, the college plays Westminister Westminis-ter Junior college, of Salt Lake, at St. George. January 4, Dixie played the B. Y. U. Bee squad at Provo. The girls basketball tournament tourna-ment will be played during the noon hour next week, from the 14th to the ISth, in the college gym. The "Dixie Chaser," a college news project which has been initiated in-itiated by Lenore Thurston and Keller Cherry, will make its first appearance Friday, January IS. These peo-! pie are: faculty advisor, Lenore Thurston; business manager, Keller Kel-ler Cherry; editor, Ruth Brad-shaw; Brad-shaw; assistant editor, Dean Boy-ack; Boy-ack; society, Beth Stephens; clubs, Florence Prince; athletics, Therol McArthur and Helen Seamen; Sea-men; assembly, Elva Hopkins; debate, Charley Pickett; home room, Pheobe Lytle; proof-reader, Desma Hall; technician-in-chief, Helen Guerrero. Special articles for the first issue have been assigned to various var-ious people in the student body. Feature writeups are open to anybody. A box will be placed at a convenient place for all voluntary contributions. The best of these will be selected and published. The price of five cents will be charged for every issue. These copies will be sold in assembly, Friday, January 18. Twenty-five training students have one by one culminated their preparation activities, and are now preparing to the subjects they have so far been observing. A careful study of fundamentals, fundamen-tals, and two weeks practice in plan-making have preceeded this new activity. Students will spend the rest of this quarter practice-teaching practice-teaching under the various critic teachers. The assembly Friday, January 5, was a miscellaneous program under the direction of Matthew Bentley. It? consisted of: 'A xylophone number, Aileen Wor-then; Wor-then; a trio number, Mona Reb-er, Reb-er, Katheryn Clark, and Una Pickett; a vocal solo, Mary McGregor; Mc-Gregor; a harmonica duet, John T. Woodbury, Jr., and Scott Pris-brey; Pris-brey; a reading, Marylin Cox. Mr. McAllister led the students in the singing of the school songs. The assembly Tuesday, January Janu-ary 8 was an extemporaneous program, under the direction of the student body officers, and the newly organized pep clubs. It included: The school song, the students; a duet number, "Violet "Vio-let and Vera;" a reading, Dean Boyack; a tap dance, Fawn Schmutz; a song, Ivan Hunt. The rest of the time was turned over to the cheer leaders, Dean Boyack and Wendell Snow. The program Friday, January 11, will be an athletic rally. The assembly Tuesday, January Janu-ary 15, will be given by the third year home room girls. The school enrollment has exceeded ex-ceeded all previous records for the Dixie College, now being 607 students. The high school dancing club is taking up tap dancing for the winter quarter project. Miss McArthur is being assisted by Fawn Schmutz, in the instruction. instruc-tion. The following freshmen girls were pledged Friday, at 6 o'clock to the Lambda Beta Theta, in the home economics dining hoom: Dora Bayles, Lucile Johnson, Florence Huntington, Desma Hall, Lily Huntsman, Mary Jar-vis, Jar-vis, La Berta Benson, Virginia Moody and De Vora Whitehead. |
