Show SIT GEORGE STAKE M.l.A. HAVE BIG DAY The initial M. I. A. day for the St. George stake, last Saturday was a big success and thoroughly enjoyed. Both bands were in the parade. There was a very large attendance from the several towns of the stake and these joined the St. George people peo-ple in making a gala time of it. The parade which started at 9:30 a. m. was very good. Prizes were given for the best float and for best representative group, St. George west winning first prize for float representing repre-senting Ireland, Washington float representing re-presenting Glory of God is Intelligence Intelli-gence winning second prize and Toquerville winning third prize with float representing Bee Hive. The group prizes were won by St. George west, first; St. George south, second and Toquerville third. Program in Tabernacle Meeting at 10:30 in Tabernacle where contest numbers were heard. Band selection. Prayer. Band Selection. Sel-ection. Oration Maurice J. Miles, St. George" easf? 1st place; Herbert Christensen, Springdale, 2nd place. Chorus: Ladies Chorus of Stake - to be sent to District tryout at Cedar City. ' Oration: Eleanor Isom, Hurricane, Hurri-cane, 1st place; Madge Morrill, Toquerville, 2nd; Bessie Atkin, St. George West, 3rd place. Chorus, Ladies Chorus. Luncheon at 12:30 to all executive officers of the stake. This luncheon was prepared by gleaner girls of the stake under the direction of Helen Gardner, stake gleaner leader. During Dur-ing the luncheon musical numbers were given by the different gleaner organizations of the stake. At two o'clock a bazaar was held in room 2S of the college building. The articles sold were contributed by bee hive and junior girls- of the stake and sold for stake benefit. Sports in Afternoon At 2 o'clock sports were conducted at the City park as follows: Ball Shift Relay (Scouts), Hurricane, Hurri-cane, 1st, St. George West, 2nd. Chariot Race (Bee Hive Girls), Santa Clara, 1st. Enterprise, 2nd, Hurricane, 3rd. M. Men Relay: St. George west, 1st, Toquerville, 2nd, Enterprise, 3rd. Base Ball throw for accuracy (Junior Girls), East ward 1st, the west and South wards tied for second. sec-ond. Hat Boxing (Advanced Seniors) Leeds 1st. Hurricane 2nd, South ward 3rd. Base Ball Bat for Distance (M. Men) West Ward 1st, Hurricane 2nd, West ward 3rd. Walking Relay (Advanced Seniors) Sen-iors) Leeds 1st, West ward 2nd, South ward 3rd. Tilting (M. Men) West Ward 1st, Enterprise 2nd, South Ward 3rd. Rifle Shooting (Gleaner Girls) East 1st, South 2nd. Boys Base Ball, East side of Stake 7, West side of Stake 6. TOTALS 1st place. West Ward. 24 points; 2nd, Hurricane, 12 points. The East ward and Leeds tied for third place. 10 points each. A song contest was on and the finals were heard for a Stake M. I. A. song. Charles Hansen of Ijeeds wrote words and music and won. For a Stake Gleaner song, Words by Grace Woodbury, Music by Dixie Woodbury. At eight o'clock another splendid meeting was held in the Tabernacle where numbers were given by the wards of the stake. It was an exceptionally ex-ceptionally good program. The day ended with a big M. I. A. dance at night. During intermission the Lancers was danced by three wards St. George west, Toquerville and Hurricane. St. George West ward won first plar-e.
