Show OIXIElEtncir BRINGS H0MEH0H0R5 The Dixie high school track team, through their coach, Leland Hafen, accepted an invitation to compete at the intersclrblastic track and field meet, held at Las Vegas, Nev., April 15. Dixie was the only Utah school invited to enter competition against nine other schools representing California, Cal-ifornia, Arizona and Nevada. The day of the meet found representatives repre-sentatives from six of the schools on the Union Pacific athletic field ready for the fray, Dixie, Las Vegas, Needles, Need-les, Panaca, Bunkerville and Overton. This was the first opportunity ever extended to Dixie to make athletic history so far south, and the boys entered en-tered the meet determined to uphold the high sandard and athletic record of their school. Las Vegas was ruled a heavy favorite to win the meet. Coach Hafen selected seven boys from his track squad to make the trip, regretting the fact that because of expense, he could not take twice that number. The meet was under the auspices of the A. A. U. association associa-tion and the preparation was complete com-plete in every detail. Coach Craver of Las Vegas high deserves much credit for the success of the meet. The trophies and medals med-als awarded were of the highest grade and were furnished by the business men of Las Vegas. Approximately $230 was spent for cups and medals. The meet was called for 1 o'clock Pacific time, to finish at 5:30. Coach Hafen and the following boys made the trip, Elwood Romney, Milton Walker, Loraine Cox, Alma Wakeling, Kenneth Judd, Horace Bryner and Clarence Baker. Dixie entered 12 of the 16 events and took 10 first places, 4 second and 2 thirds. Milton Walker of the Dixie tied with Scott of Las Vegas for high point man, with 3 first places and 1 second. Both boys received an extra gold medal and a silver loving cup. Dixie took first place at the meet winning overher nearest competitor, Las Vegas by S points. Dixie 63 points,,. Las Vegas 55. The Dixie boys returned return-ed with 4 loving cups and seventeen medals, totaling in value $160.00.
