Show TOURIST IS KILLED WHILE FIXING TIRE Homer Sutfin, of Denver, who with his wife and two children were on their way to Pheonix, Arizona, was struck by an auto- mobile driven by Clarence Jones of Hurricane on Saturday evening, even-ing, October 5 about one mile east of Washington. He was im-l im-l mediately taken to the hospital , where it was found that he had ! sustained a broken back, two I fractured legs and a fractured skull. Mr. Sutfin died soon after af-ter being brought to the hospi-jtal. hospi-jtal. j The- aeeident ocenrred when j Mr. Sutfin had stopped his car on the side of the road in order that he might repair a tire. Mr. Jones was coming in the same direction, toward St. George, and had rounded a curve and up over a slight grade into the sun which interfered with his vision, states Sheriff John H. Cottam who made an investigation of the accident. ac-cident. Both cars were damaged in the accident. Mrs. Sutfin sold theirs and Tuesday with the body of her husband in a truck continued on to Pheonix where her husband hus-band has a brother and si'ster. Mr. Sutfin was an ex-service man and received a small pension from the government. An inquest was held Sunday and the jury issued the following verdict: "That the death of said Homer Sutfin was caused by being struck by an automobile while he was standing on the public highway in Washington county, by an au-j au-j tomobile driven by Clarence Jones; that at the time said im-, pact occurred the deceased was at fault in having his car located locat-ed in the position it was on the highway, and at the same time; we feel that Clarence Jones should have exercised greater care, in traveling when his vision was. obstructed as the evidence show-! ed in this case. We find that said death was not felonious. j |
