Show NEVER SAY DIE (Editorial in Salt Lake Tribune) It is inspiring to hear that Dixie : farmers are not disheartened from their failures in early tomatoes. One ; of the many vagaries of nature, manifest mani-fest in such uncontrollable things as insect pests and blights, worked against the producers in that section and stemmed practically all hope of developing an early tomato industry. The specialists called on the case pronounced the venture a failure, but with almost the same breath release some optimism. They say that Dixie may hope to develop a late tomato industry, which in many respects is almost as satisfactory as an early tomato industry. j For some time Dixie has been thinking of building up a tomato i business. Much thought has been i given the matter, but this year was j the first year for any great activity. Nearly a hundred acres had been con- traded for. Now the harvest of 1 early tomatoes will be light. Had Dixie farmers taken the failure fail-ure to heart and forgotten tomatoes 1 entirely, it would have been regret-i regret-i table. It shows they have much con-: con-: fidence in their land and its ability to produce tomatoes. They reason that a land unable to produce tomatoes toma-toes early in the year certainly should be able to produce them later. So the land which failed to produce an early crop is being plowed and planted plant-ed to a crop for the late harvest. Such perseverance warrants success. |
