Show STRIP HIGHWAY DISCUSSED At a conference held in the Arrowhead hotel between Col. Thos. Maddock, Ellis J. Pickett and Charles H. Bigelow, the question of the St. George-Kingman highway was discussed in detail. During the regime of Mr. Mad-dock Mad-dock as state highway engineer of Arizona, a rebuilding program of the trunk roads was inaugurated inaugu-rated that has resulted in putting put-ting Arizona in the front rank of western states insofar as motor mo-tor highways are concerned. Mr. Maddock intended to drive from St. George to Kingman via Tierce's Ferry, hut a cloud-hurst cloud-hurst had worked such havoc in certain sections that he was compelled to travel via Las Vegas. Ve-gas. U is to be regretted that he was unable to make a personal per-sonal examination of this route. However, Mr. Bigelow supplied him with field notes and sketches sketch-es which Mr. Maddock assured him would receive most careful consideration. It is unfortunate that any portion por-tion of the money expended by Mohave county on this road last year was devoted to the beds of washes. These natural waterways water-ways are certain to carry considerable con-siderable floods during the summer sum-mer season and why road foremen fore-men will persist in locating the beds of streams instead of high ground is an unsolved mystery. |
